The Benefits of Organic Toys

When it comes to purchasing organic toys, many parents who routinely cook and purchase organic food for their kids are less conscientious. One explanation is that since toys are not consumed, parents may not immediately see the issue. Another is the relative dearth of organic toys, which contrasts with organic food, which is now readily available in all supermarkets and specialty shops.

But as the advantages of organic toys become more widely recognized, several responsible toy manufacturers are meeting the demand. Although organic toys have various advantages, the majority of them fall into two categories: environmental health and human health.

Through Babies' Mouths

All parents are aware that babies and toddlers frequently put toys and other objects they can hold in their mouths, even though children don't consume toys. Babies learn about their environment by "tasting" objects to determine what is and is not edible.

Additionally, some playthings, like teething rings, are made to be put in the mouth. Unfortunately, a lot of traditional toys are made with hazardous substances and chemicals that shouldn't be consumed by infants. In the US and many other nations, some of the worst offenders, like lead, are prohibited.

However, the majority of the most affordable and well-liked mass-produced toys offered in the West are made in Asia, where regulations are loose.

Organic toys, in contrast, are manufactured from substances that are more closely related to nature than plastic and other products derived from petroleum, such as wood, wool, and paper. You won't have to worry about what potentially harmful man-made chemicals may be hiding beneath the surface of the organic toys you choose for your child.

A Rash of Problems

One issue with one's health is ingesting chemicals through toys that wind up in young children's mouths. Several skin conditions, including dermatitis and eczema, can be brought on by or made worse by the chemicals in traditional toys.

Here, mass-produced materials that have undergone processing, treatment, or dyeing with resins and chemicals like formaldehyde are frequently to blame. Consider cotton, whose cultivation uses 25% of the insecticides applied globally. The harsh chemicals used by manufacturers to remove seeds and oils from raw cotton that has been mechanically picked might persist in the fabric.

Contrarily, organic cotton is hand-harvested, washed in hot water with mild soap, and dried without the use of pesticides or acidic residues.

Eco-Friendly Play

Beyond issues with one's health, organic toys provide several environmental advantages, the majority of which are closely connected to the aforementioned issues with one's health. Even though toys aren't "burned" like fuel, the creation of plastic from crude oil adds to global warming. Plastic toys are made from petroleum.

Additionally, using up the world's finite supply of petroleum to make toys may eventually leave less accessible for valuable medications and other beneficial plastic-based products. Our water and air are being poisoned by the pesticides used to produce traditional fabrics and paper for toys, especially in rural areas and developing nations.

The fact that organic toys are typically simpler than mass-produced conventional toys and encourage imaginative play in kids is a bonus. For instance, since organic wool and cotton dolls lack the "baked-in" facial and body traits of their plastic counterparts, kids can modify them to countless play scenarios.

Purchasing toys made of certified-organic materials and FSC-certified wood (Forest Stewardship Council) removes the mystery of what's in a toy and guarantees you that your child isn't putting harmful substances into her mouth or on his skin, even though many non-organic natural toys achieve the same goal.

To give parents and families playthings that are safe for kids and good for the environment we all share, Macklem's Toys is happy to have assembled a variety of toys and art supplies produced from certified organic materials.
